Barney and Bali
Barney is the offspring of Black and a thoroughbred mare from the Midas racing line here in S.A, Bali. She came to us at the age of 14 when the owner decided she was useless as a riding horse and brood mare. We were asked by the livery stable she was at to come and fetch her or she would be euthanized rather than pay stabling fees, what we call a ‘throwaway.’ So sad when this happens. Bali was very aggressive when she came to us a couple of years ago and loved to use her front legs as protection, if only she could tell her story to have made her like she was. We put her to Black and she produced the most beautiful colt called Barney in 2017. He’s a bit of a naughty colt but hopefully he will quiet down a bit now that he's been gelded. Bali has turned into very much a people’s mare and shows her gentler side since she’s been with us. Barney has a long way to go but with a bit more handling help from willing volunteers I’m sure his trust will improve
