Stepper is an Arab cross Boerperde who came to us from a young girl who no longer had grazing for him, he was rising two when he arrived with his Mum, Kayla. Kayla has been working on the beach trails for 14 years and is one of Penny’s most reliable beginner trail horses. Stepper is another story, a lovely ride but quite a handful. We tried him on the beach trails but due to not having suitably experienced volunteers to get him into a routine was brought back to the farm and is used here on outrides.
Joe came to us as a Nooitgedacht stallion. He was sold into the area but the sale fell through and we were able to buy him for a very small amount. While we had him gelded to use on the beach, Joe only worked on the beach for a couple of years. He was given a terrible fright while crossing the lagoon by a youngster who thought it was funny to paddle the canoe into him. We brought him home and he’s just ridden on the farm. Though we think that with him being fully matured, he could go back and work for a living.
Gia came to us a couple of months ago from a very upmarket yard, same as Bali. She was bought for a young girl but Gia was far too big and strong for her to handle. So another story of ‘come and fetch her’ or she would be euthanized. Gia is 6 years old..
